Release of Cube 4.2

2008-01-25 14:37 by webmaster

Citilabs, the world leader in transportation planning software, is proud to announce the immediate availability of its next release, Cube 4.2. This new version of Cube includes a prerelease version of Cube 5.0, developed using ESRI’s ArcGIS engine. You can use Cube 4.2 product media to install both Cube 4.2 and the Cube 5.0 prerelease, an excellent base for testing and migrating existing data to GIS data formats.

“The new functions available in Cube 4.2 continue the strategic integration of tools necessary for transportation planning agencies and consultants,” states Michael Clarke, Citilabs President and CEO. “This software release provides new modeling and visualization functions, as well as performance and quality improvements. It is available immediately for download for existing license holders of Cube 4.x.”

The initial distribution of Cube 4.2 and the Cube 5.0 prerelease coincided with Citilabs’ International User Conference, Futura07, which concluded on October 24 in Palm Springs, California. All delegates received a copy of Cube 4.2, and Cube 5’s public prerelease version. In addition, about 20 users participated in the introductory Cube 5 training class. When completed, Cube 5 users will enjoy significant advancements in productivity, analysis, and data sharing via an integrated GIS. Cube 5.0 users will be able to store transportation networks as ESRI geodatabases and use ESRI feature classes. Moving data back and forth between models and GIS will become easier, saving transportation agencies and consultants time and money.

Cube 4.2 users will gain access to additional features in the following areas:
  • Improvements in Cube Base
    • Improved Highway layer editing, with new log functions
    • Adds new transit line functions
    • New animated packet layer for Cube Avenue users
    • Added support for DBF and KML
    • Improved symbology with automated scaling
    • Increased number of viewable matrices
  • Improvements in Cube Reports
    • New support for HTML and MS-Word formats
  • Improvements in Cube Voyager
    • Adds support for ESRI geodatabase feature classes
    • Adds significant toll modeling capabilities
    • Adds new database support:
      • New DBI functions and commands
      • Greater support for multiple input files
      • Greater support for string and numeric arrays
      • Improved Public Transport
    • Adds new Public Transport functions:
      • New route analysis capability
      • Improved transit matrix estimation tools
      • Includes new loading and crowding tools
      • Improved linkage to Cube Analyst
      • Improved PT reporting
      • Increased number of fare systems
    • Adds new character support in script expressions
    • Improved path-building with optional link-consolidation
    • Improved integration with Cube Analyst
  • Improvements in Cube Avenue
    • Improves run-time and performance and memory usage
    • Increased packet animation capability
    • Adds dynamic path-cost skimming
    • Adds new commands for scripting

In addition, with Cube 5, existing Cube users can keep the traditional Cube networks, or they can convert their road network data to an ArcGIS personal geodatabase with a single click. Because Cube can read and write to geodatabases, passing data between ArcGIS applications and Cube applications is easier and faster. You can pass the information that Cube models generate to an ArcView application for further processing and analysis. Similarly, you can easily pass any information stored in a geodatabase to a Cube model. Agencies with significant commitments to ESRI software, including employee training, will realize significant productivity gains. Cube 5 enables these agencies to increase the return on their GIS investments.

“Given the myriad uses of GIS software at state, local, and regional transportation agencies, I believe the productivity and flexibility Cube 4.2 offers will be eye-opening,” suggests Ernie Ott, Citilabs VP. “In the past, both ESRI and Citilabs software users would have to very carefully consider how they approach a complex analysis, in order to take advantage of the strengths of each platform, as well as where data might reside or be generated. The interoperability of applications using an ArcGIS geodatabase and applications based in Cube will remove some data processing steps from the workflow, and overall, reduce the complexity of their processes.”

Existing Cube 4.x users under a software maintenance contract may upgrade their existing modules to Cube 4.2 at no additional charge. In addition to the immediate availability of Cube 4.2, Cube 5 is currently nearing the end of an extensive testing period, and we are accepting further input from our testers. However, development has reached a stage where the software is both stable and quite useful. We anticipate completing the final testing stage soon, and anticipate a commercial release this winter. At that point, Citilabs will announce the general availability of Cube 5.0, allowing immediate ordering. To learn more about Cube and other Citilabs products, please visit www.citilabs.com today.
