Sustainable Transportation and Social Responsibility
Citilabs staff and software users are professionally committed to making a better future for all our communities, and by extension, nationally and globally. We are in the business of providing tools for planners and engineers to help them develop better transportation systems. We also realize we fit into a larger community of those providing software and services to advance the cause for improved mobility, efficiency and safety with these transportation systems. Our Citilabs commitment is to understand how we fit, and how we may improve what we offer, but also how well the entire system works. Here are several examples:
As a Software Supplier:
In many instances our software users produced in other applications or stored in other formats supplies data. And in many other instances, the output of our software is needed by users of other applications, either written by other companies or public institutions, or developed in-house by our software users. We have made the commitment both through our own developers as well as the choices of partners, to ensure that our software can read as many formats as is practical to support. We encourage our software users to identify for us software packages and formats which we could potentially improve import and export vis-à-vis Cube.

As Transportation Planners and Modelers:
The transportation planning environment is becoming more complex due to a number of factors related to the number of mobility options available, the greater use of tolls and fares, and other policy and legal initiatives. Initiatives which require the achievement of Air Quality or Noise levels, “Green House Gas” reductions, and other transportation policies can not be ignored in key planning tools. Citilabs is committed to improving software tools which planners and modelers depend on, to incorporate improvement in the use of tolls and fares, and other factors to appropriately measure full social costs of transportation.

As a Key Part of the Planning Community:
Transportation plans are only one portion of our communities planning efforts, along with others such as land use, economic development, safety, public health, and education. While transportation allows access to essentially all types of facilities, transportation can not be the “tail wagging the dog”. Sustainable community development frequently challenges traditional approaches. Citilabs is committed to bring innovations, such as the integration of software and data, including software solutions integrating GIS, Land Use Models, Urban Simulation, Traffic Operations, as well as traditional travel demand forecasting models.
Citilabs invites you to visit our new Transportation Project Carbon Calculator, developed in partnership with the “Nature Conservancy”.
As Concerned and Responsible Citizens:
Rising fuel and other energy prices, as well as Climate Change Considerations are just 2 of the most recent challenges to the planning community. The level of uncertainty introduced to the planning process, along with new laws, such as California “AB 32” will lengthen and stress the establish processes. In times of great change, it is critical to both stay abreast of, and contribute to where possible, the state of the profession. Citilabs professionals have throughout their careers been committed to working with established industry associations and forums, most notably:
